Pump Engineer / Mechanical Engineer
Mid Kent Electrical Engineering Co (MKE) is the South East’s largest independent electrical and mechanical engineering company, with over 175 employees and three sites across Kent and Essex.
Location: Sittingbourne, Kent
Salary: £37,000 – £42,000 per year (depending on experience) + overtime opportunities
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
The Role
This is a diverse and hands-on role within a reactive engineering business. You will work on the repair, overhaul, and installation of industrial mechanical equipment, including:
- Pumps (various types)
- AC/DC motors
- Gearboxes
- Other rotating plant and equipment
Key duties will include:
- Inspection, strip-down, repair, and rebuild of mechanical equipment.
- Site-based repair and maintenance works across water utilities, power, and manufacturing sites.
- Fault finding, problem solving, and carrying out high-quality engineering repairs.
- Supporting installation and commissioning when required.
What We’re Looking For
- Time-served apprenticeship or relevant mechanical engineering qualification.
- Experience with pumps, motors, gearboxes, or similar rotating equipment.
- Previous water utilities industry experience (advantageous but not essential).
- Full, clean UK driving licence.
- A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn new skills.

Founded by Colin Savage in 1955 MKE. Mid Kent Electrical Engineering began life repairing small electric motors for the surrounding area. The original workshop was opened in Detling and was ideally situated to serve the developing paper industry in the area. Seventy years on the company is owned and guided by the latest Savage family generation and in 2024 celebrated the most successful year in their history.
